“As many of you know, I’m a pretty private person, but as I reflect on the tour and festivals, I want to share a bit about what’s been going on with me,” wrote Justin Timberlake.
“I’ve been struggling with some health issues and was diagnosed with Lyme disease, and I’m not saying this so you feel sorry for me, but to shed some light on what I’ve been dealing with behind the scenes,” the singer continued.
Lyme disease is usually caused by the bite of ticks infected with the Borrelia bacteria. Symptoms include fatigue, joint stiffness, muscle pain, and even skin rashes.
Justin Timberlake said he was shocked when he received the diagnosis but said he was able to understand the cause of the pain he felt when going on stage. The singer even considered canceling the tour.
“Not only did I prove to myself my mental strength, but now I have so many special moments with all of you that I will never forget,” he said.
“I was reluctant to talk about this because I was always taught to keep these things to myself, but I’m trying to be more transparent about my struggles so they won’t be misunderstood,” the singer concluded.
Justin Timberlake thanked his fans and team for attending his tour shows. He also paid tribute to his wife, Jessica Biel, and his two children, Silas and Phineas.
